My
name is Deyontavis Williams-Hightower, current Senior at Knox College
in Galesburg IL, studying English Literature with a Creative Writing
minor and graduating in 2016. I'm an aspiring writer and animator
searching for a career in the multimedia industry. I believe that
having experience, an open mind, and a positive attitude will help me
achieve my goal and thus far those attributes have succeeded.
Throughout my life, I'm come to understand that having a hand in
multiple field and gaining experience from all angles helps to bring
a broader understanding to the workforce. Because of that, I've
participated in writing, art, music, dance, and two fields outside my
career choice: food and office work. As a writer I've worked for my
school's newspaper, the TKS, as a reporter and have several stories
published. From that, I've learned how to meet deadlines and
schedules, as well as planning ahead and speaking with people at a
comfortable level during interviews. In addition, I also have a short
story published in our on campus magazine and a copyrighted
manuscript of original poems.
Even
though my focus is to work in the media industry, preferably as a
storyboard writer, screenwriter, and/or animator, I've taken into
account that I needed to do more than simple write. In college, I was
the leader of a small dance team for 2 months. From that, I've
learned leadership skills, to take initiative, and be creative while
enjoying what I do. I've also worked in my on campus dinning
services, showing that I'm a team player but can also manage my own
work and be supportive as a whole. In my spare time, whiling managing
my studies and extra-cirricular activities, I enjoy computer modeling
and animation. As stated above, one of my dream jobs was to be an
animator. For the past two years I've worked on computer modeling and
animation, studying how to make scenes, lighting, characters, and
putting them all together in motion. My biggest success led to a 5
second animation with a fully developed character in a well lit
scene. I've learned patience and became self motivated the more I
practiced.
While
I still have much to learn, I'm constantly developing my skills and
learning from new experiences. I'm currently studying abroad in
Ireland for my English Major and managing an internship working at a
college for the law and business departments 15 hrs a week next to
classes. This internship has given me a vital look into the working
world and I plan to use that experience down the road for when I get
my career job.
